There are a couple of things we kept coming back to while building this out. One of them is the Japanese listening lounge. Not in a literal way. More in how those spaces feel when you’re in them. The attention to what’s playing. The way the room holds sound. The sense that you’re allowed to just sit there for a while without needing anything else. We kept thinking about that. What it would look like to bring some of that into a salon. Not as a theme, but as a way of approaching things. Slowing it down a bit. Being more deliberate about the atmosphere, not just the work. Music plays into that. So does the pacing of the appointments. Even the way the space carries sound throughout the day. It all adds up. At the same time, we were pulling from a very different place. French cafés have always had this way of feeling lived-in without trying too hard. You can show up, stay longer than you planned, have a conversation that drifts a bit. Nothing feels rushed, but nothing feels overworked either. That balance stuck with us. Somewhere between those two references, something started to take shape. Not something we can fully explain, and honestly not something we’re trying to. But you can feel it. We started sharing a few photos as things came together. Nothing major, just small glimpses. And people picked up on it right away. Which was encouraging. It meant we weren’t the only ones noticing it. That’s probably the best way to describe all of this. It’s not meant to be a concept you read about and fully understand. It’s something you come into and recognize for yourself.
